Geotextile Overview :-

Geotextiles are commonly employed to improve soils for the construction of streets, pipelines, embankments, and earth-retaining structures. Warp-knitted textiles, open-mesh textiles, and non-woven textiles are among the materials used in geotextile fabrics. The product's key functions include filtration, separation, strengthening, protection, and drainage. Water and other fluids can be separated from various solid particles using geotextile drainage fabrics, which have filtration capabilities. This filtration function is mostly employed in drainage systems. Geotextiles are fabrics that are used in geotechnical applications including road and railway embankments, earth dikes, and coastal protection structures to perform one or more basic tasks such filtration, drainage, soil layer separation, reinforcing, and stabilization. As a result, nearly all geotextile applications are multi-functional.

Geotextiles are made of plastic materials, mostly polypropylene and polyester, but also polyethylene, polyamide (nylon), polyvinylidene chloride, and fibreglass (for example, in roadway substrates) to perform the above functions and meet the demanding requirements of cost and resistance for the intended applications. Any of the aforementioned polymers are commonly used to make sewing thread for geotextiles. By constructing geotextiles with warp-knitting technique, it is feasible to offer reinforcement while also allowing for easy sensor integration, bringing up new design possibilities for multi-functional geotextiles.
