The former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP Political Leaders have formed the irrigation societies, with an aim of bringing revolutionary changes in the field of irrigation. The formation of these Irrigation Societies is a unique, innovative and revolutionary experiment in which farmers are entrusted with the power and responsibility over the irrigation system. This process, which was not undertaken anywhere in the country, gave farmers the opportunity to decide their own affairs.

 

One of the major TDP Contributions of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu is to provide efficient and equitable distribution of irrigation water, and the development of irrigation systems according to farmer's method are advantages of this system  The State Government passed the Farmers Irrigation Management Act in April 1997 to form Irrigation Societies. The TDP Government under the regime of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu has started the Irrigation societies in June 1997, with 1481.58 crore rupees for the irrigation sector under the world bank-assisted economic reconstruction project, with the largest allocation assigned. During the years 1998-1999, under the TDP Policies of irrigation communities, the water societies completed 21,406 works at a cost of Rs.118.62 crores. In the year 1999-2000, the irrigation societies completed 17,185 works at a cost of Rs.139.60 crores.

 

In 2 years (2000-2002) 4,948 small water ponds were taken up for minimum restoration at a cost of Rs.225.01 crores. This will benefit an area of ​​5 lakh 70 thousand hectares. Under this TDP Irrigation Project, in the year 2000-2001, irrigation societies repaired 5,950 ponds and 147 ponds at a cost of Rs.105 crores have completed

 

With the support of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP government in Andhra Pradesh, the irrigation societies for the year 2001-2002 completed 6,100, repairing works of 1,144 ponds with Rs.112.61 crores and in the year 2002-2003, 820 works were completed for the repair of 1,703 ponds at a cost of Rs.103.00 crores. To date of 1998-2003 (up to March 2003) about 52,500 works have been completed at a cost of about Rs.570 crores and irrigation has been provided to 10.08 lakh acres.

 

Godavari Delta Water Societies managed to achieve 15% more production with 60% water in the previous year i.e. 2000-2001 Rabi season under critical conditions. Similarly, the Krishna Delta Water Societies cultivated full 50 per cent water in the 2001 Kharif season. And even during the Kharif season of 2002, the waterlogging situation in the Krishna delta was overcome with efficient water management practices.
